Hello world! My name is Dustin and if you’ve stumbled upon this site it’s because you decided to randomly search Film Dust Reviews (not likely) or it’s because I sent you a link to this website (most likely).
You might be thinking to yourself “Dustin it isn’t 2009 anymore, why are you making a blog?”
Valid question. So let this first entry be an answer and an introduction.
While I always considered myself a movie fan I would say my love for it didn’t really kickstart until 2014. And who could blame me? 2014 saw the release of films like The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gone Girl, Whiplash, John Wick, and Boyhood to name a few. They probably seem like basic film bro movies now but these movies helped make me want to take my love of cinema more seriously.
At the same time I took a journalism 101 class on a whim at college which then led me to writing for the student paper which eventually led to me to being the arts and entertainment editor for a few years. It was there I honed my writing skills as I used it an excuse to write film reviews for every issue (while also occasionally writing stories related to arts and entertainment events at my school). Sadly that student paper eventually shut down when the instructor retired and the replacement one eventually transferring out. Most of my work from that site has been lost to the annals of time although I’m grateful to still have physical copies of my work (which I might upload in the future).
While going to school, working part time at my job and for the student paper, I got introduced to the owner of the small entertainment site YourEntertainmentCorner in 2016. It was there I frequently published reviews for independent films as a contributing film critic over the next several years and thankfully you can find my older reviews there still. Honestly they range in quality but I’m still proud of them.
My contributions there slowed down due to a combination of working full time, personal issues, and the owner of the site dealing with their own personal health issues. My last published review there being nearly three years ago and is also the last time I wrote in any professional capacity.
But I never lost that itch to write and after much waffling about I decided screw it and created this website. My goal in doing so is to have a place where I can publish my thoughts and hopefully build a community of like mind film lovers.
